Fishing
Latchygors lake is approximately
1.5 acres in size with a depth of 3 to 15 feet and is a haven of tranquility.
It is stocked with brown trout up to about 5lbs in weight. The lake is spring
fed and the trout are good fighting stock. All fishing techniques
and baits work well. Fly fishing is preferred.
The lake has easy access and disabled anglers can take vehicles to the
waters edge. There are four fishing platforms, two of which can accomodate
wheelchairs.

Catch
And Release
In order to give your catch
the best chance of survival after it is returned to the lake, please bear
in mind the following points
Hooks
- Small barbless hooks
are best
- Barbed hooks can
be modified by flattening with pliers
Playing the fish
- The more exhausted
the fish, the lower its chances of survival
- Bring the fish back
to the bank quickly and firmly
Landing the fish
- Keep the fish in
the water at all times
- Use a larger landing
net with a soft knotless mesh
Removing the hook
- Wet your hands
- Keep the fish in
the water
- Be gentle. Don't
squeeze the fish
- Remove the hook gently,
using forceps if necessary
- If the fish is deep
hooked, cut the line as close to the hook as possible
Reviving the fish
- Avoid weighing the
fish. Estimate the weight
- Support the fish
and move it backwards and forwards to get the water flowing past the gills
- Be patient. A
tired fish needs time to recover and swim away on its own
